High Energy Turret Hardpoint
The Hyperion Federation don't permanently mount weapons to their hulls. To make their military far more variable and adaptable, they place several 'turret hardpoints' into their hull. Almost any weapon the Federation uses can be mounted to these, allowing Federation engineers to easily swap weapon loadouts for any mission.
Depending on the High-Energy Technology level, the format may change. For example, it is not possible to fix a λ based weapon to a Ω hardpoint. Despite Ω being of a higher tier.
Another thing to note is that weapons that fire macroscopic objects such as railguns require ammo to operate. Ammo is never stored on Federation starships, but it is very quickly made in a Replicator with QEN as long as a supply of matter plasma is available.
Turret hardpoints such as these were initially conceptualised following the invention of Δ High-Energy Technology. The first ship that used this was constructed to use these types of weapon mounts was T.S. Boson. During the Suon - Saelian war, the United Nations of Tebburus was able to easily retrofit their ships for any mission, making them far more versatile at little cost to performance. Saelian forces were initially very surprised to see them seemingly switch weapons so fast, one key factor that won the UN of tebburus this war.
The extreme versatility of these machines meant that they remained in use for many thousands of years, even remaining in very common service in current years. To be able to handle such a wide variety of weapons, it also needs to be able to handle all of their diverse requirements. This meant that it required an energy output as well as a matter plasma output, among others. Some weapons, such as the Hypermatter Accelerator Cannon, require more special input. This often requires the matter plasma output to be converted into a Hypermatter one. Some weapons require Taidakic Field or Aetherium. Therefore these have been upgraded over the years to allow the nanobots within the ship and armour itself to perform these upgrades quickly and easily as different weapons are fitted.
