Impaler Antimatter Railgun
The "Impaler" Class Levitating Exotic-Superconducting Antimatter Railgun X-41, AKA Impaler Antimatter Railgun for short, is a large, extremely powerful railgun as used by the Hyperion Federation. It fires immense, extremely heavy slugs at obscene velocities. Antimatter is used as the propellant, and the rails themselves are made from very exotic materials. They are superconductors but rather than using electrons to carry an electric current, a different particle with a much higher charge is used. Also, due to the fact it floats, it can rotate very fast.
Needless to say, it can easily tear a hole clean through an unprepared enemy.
Such a heavy round, flying at almost the speed of light, would undoubtly result in a lot of recoil. Such a huge force should easily tear the gun off its electromagnetic levitation mount. To fix this issue, it uses extremely strong inertia dampeners just after it fires. However, there is also a back-blast as they fire jets of particles backwards when firing. These particles exhibit strange properties - they can pass through almost all matter undetected and unimpeded. The matter it passes through is similarly unaffected. This is neutrino radiation.
It does, unfortunately, require a lot of energy to fire. Furthermore, if it is destroyed it will likely take the entire ship, as well as some nearby ones, with it due to the release of large amounts of antimatter.
