Ion Cannon

Floating turret with an immense caliber as designed by the Hyperion Federation. It fires an extremely bright and powerful spread of ions that can tear several holes in a ship with 1 shot, and cause great amounts of internal damage. They are not used often however, because of their extremely short range. The HF normally favours long range strike doctrines.
The Ion Cannon was designed to punch a large number of holes in a target in a very short time. It achieves this goal effectively in the form of a spread of extremely dense beams of ions. The HF rarely uses it however due to the short range nature of the weapon. It can be used at long range, but other weapons such as the Paladin Photon Lance are more effective due to the sheer spread of the beams. The HF uses it when they suspect they could enter short range combat. The Ion Cannon was designed by a Kloxin. This individual has been attempting to design weapons for the HF military for a very long time, but has only succeeded with the Ion Cannon.
