Annihilator Plasma Cannon
An extremely powerful plasma cannon with 4 barrels - and a surprisingly high fire rate - used by the Hyperion Federation with an anti heavy role. The cannon has a lot of recoil, limiting use on smaller ships like destroyers. The projectiles also travel slow, and the turret has a slow traverse rate, making it important to use it against heavy targets.
Its projectiles consist mainly of quark-gluon plasma, which is highly unstable and extremely energetic. As the very early Universe was in this state of matter, it can be said that a collision with these plasma rounds is like starting a miniature big bang next to the enemy armour.
The quark-gluon plasma is normally too unstable on its own to be used like this as it would decay almost immediately after firing. To this end, the HF also makes it fire a different kind of plasma that encases the quark-gluon plasma payload which stabilizes it and allows the plasma rounds to hit the target. However, this is still unstable so if it is used in atmosphere that would cause the outer layers to be stripped very quickly due to atmospheric interference and cause it to detonate as it leaves the barrel.
This makes the Annihilator somewhat unreliable in orbit of some planets if they have a large enough atmosphere. In these situations, the Z7 is often used instead for its similar role and similar properties.The Annihilator was developed as a response to the notion that starships started getting larger as technology advanced. It would become apparent that eventually even destroyers would become much larger. This also applied to other factions, so the HF designed the Annihilator. Ultimately, the weapon itself would also need to grow with the size of the ship it is mounted to so it would remain difficult to use it well on destroyers.
