Drath
Insectoid race with wings and are flight capable. In order to give up weight for this, they are not very strong physically, and will not stand up to punishment.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
They have large eyes. They can see wider angles than human eyes. They can also sense infrared waves. This allows them to see anything that his hotter than its surroundings, such as most species.

History
The Micars Empire has originated on a world with high oxygen and megafauna. The early drath have evolved a fast reaction time and can become airborne very quickly when scared. This is how they escaped most predators.
Conflicts were often resolved with war, like many species. They often used an airborne doctrine, even during their tribal eras. Airborne drath were hard to kill with this technology level, and they could see in infrared, so both sides often had full Intel on the other at almost all times. It was nearly impossible to hide from a drath in reconnaissance.
As technology advanced, and more accurate ranged weapons were developed such as bows and crossbows, they were forced to rely less on this effective recon strategy. While it is possible to equip a drath with armour, this would ground them and eliminate their flying ability. Flying drath couldn't hope to use a crossbow in flight effectively due to the instability of not having a ground to stand on. Flight also meant that walls were far less effective so fewer resources were invested into them. Instead, more crossbow soldiers with high fire rate, repeating weapons were used as the drath are very light and have hollow bones.
After they developed firearms, armour became less often used outside of vehicles so flight became more commonplace once again. By flying low, they would avoid most flak fire so they never developed trench warfare. By flying an army could increase its speed significantly and simply move over trenches. The drath have not developed tanks until much later and they had better top armour and secondary armament than tanks of other species. As technology advanced, they were equipped with more stealth gear. This initially came in the form of a light blue camoflauge to blend in with the sky but soon infrared imaging was developed, and counters. Flak became very widespread so drath flight became used for positioning rather than assault. For example, crossing rivers and cliffs. It could still be used offensively in an environment with cover like jungles and cities, provided the person is careful to not get their wings
After space travel became commonplace, their homeworld of Micars was invaded by a far more advanced alien civilization. The Drath race lost and retreated to a gas giant, Xaolia, in their home system of Arak. They hid shallow enough to be safe, but deep enough to escape form alien scanners. All this led them to develop advanced skill in large technological projects, which they could also use for megastructures. The wars also made them xenophobic and they also unified under the common goal to reclaim their homeworld - this planet is rightfully theirs!
However, the aliens occupying their homeworld had a civil war and they had to withdraw from Arak to send their forces elsewhere. Seeing this as a great opportunity to reclaim what's theirs, the Drath species and their newly founded Micars Empire launched attacks. Miraculously, they found many members of their own species still alive on their homeworld - they too would rise up against their former oppressors, making the Empire stronger. And so, they succeeded...
Biology
The drath digestive and respiratory sytems are largely interconnected. They have a single esophagus which features a resonating organ outside it which allows them to speak. The passage to this closes off when swallowing food. Most of the air will travel through the stomach and into the intestine, much like food. The drath mostly rely on the mouth to break down food very finely, but they also have a slightly acidic stomach gas that breaks food down further, while not blocking the person's air passage. The passage from the stomach to intestine has a very fine filter which blocks food chunks from entering but allows liquids and gases through. Much of the interior of the stomach also features structures of sponge-like materials and muscles which capture and crush chunks of food effectively and allow a significant air flow. As a part of a drath's breathing pattern, air pressure is created in the intestine via peristalsis, and food is also transported like this, sometimes in a gaseous state but often liquid. Food and air is absorbed into the bloodstream. This allows for a significant airflow that lungs might not achieve, which allows one to breathe very fast while flying. They have a smaller number of organs as well, which reduces their mass, although they require larger stomachs. In times of significant activity their breathing rate increases due to a higher oxygen requirement. This leads to very fast food processing, which can lead to inefficient processing and absorption. As such, significant amounts of flight tends to be discouraged by the body while digesting food, and their intestine lengths are longer. The significant air pressures involved can help them excrete, but air is typically directed through a different orfice instead, which is located nearby. The drath have a more or less humanoid cardiovascular system. They feature a large heart along with arteries and veins. Due to their small size, a drath heart is comparitively small but the unified respiratory an digestive tracts saves a lot of internal space, allowing a drath to use a potentially powerful heart, which helps them retain enough energy during flight. They can also store a large amount of energy for flight close to where the wings attach to the body. To further save weight, the drath reproduce by laying eggs. Drath eggs are quite small, as are their newborns, but newborn drath have a faster metabolism which allows them to grow faster at the cost of eating a large amount of food. As they grow, their metabolism slows down and the relative size between their stomach and the rest of the body is reduced. They do not lay a large amount of eggs, so the newborn survial rate is still relatively high. Eggs are laid by females, who must be made fertile by male drath.
