Purity of the Stars
The Hyperion Federation is not perfectly stable - despite its multi species property, there are still xenophobic people in it. There are 2 major types of xenophobia in the Federation:
Complete Xenophobia, who want to kill all sapient species that are not their own.
Federate Xenophobia, who want to kill all non - HF aligned sapient species.
Purity of the Stars is the largest example of a Federate Xenophobia group. On occasion, they may attack the HF in protest against their xenophile property. (xenophilia is the opposite of xenophobia)
The"Silver" Incident led to the creation of this terrorist group. As the HF is a post scarcity society, PotS has and can use the military technology of the HF.
Also, the PotS are not as heavily ethically bound as the HF, which can make them a powerful threat to the HF despite their large numbers disadvantage. Thankfully, not all of such techprints have leaked into PotS hands, but the HF military needs to worry about the possibility of Anti-ship RKMs, Sound Wave Neutralizers, Negative Entropy warheads and so on.
