Troznux
Umbrella term for many species of sentient bioships of the Troznux Clans, which resides in the Arkan galaxy. Arkan species never managed intergalactic travel, but as the Troznux Clans are a part of the Hyperion Federation, some has travelled between galaxies.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Depends on species, but they are usually capable of sublight travel by using various propulsion organs. Many species can also grow organs that allow them to travel at FTL. most Troznux species also typically have organs on their exterior which can fire various kinds of projectiles such as plasma and even laser beams. These are placed in highly complex muscle systems which allow them to pivot the weapon organs in any direction. Many troznux species have a round body.
FTL travel actually causes little physical stress on the body. This is because most forms of FTL involve warping of space in a way that forms a distorted bubble around the creature. The primary factor limiting FTL travel is the sheer amount of energy it needs, which can be very exhausting to use. Therefore, the most stressful part is the burning of fat at a rate fast enough to sustain superluminal travel.
Biological Traits
After the Harkas engineered the Troznux, it became apparent that they could accelerate faster than most mechanical starships. Their weapons, fully biological in nature and usually a part of their body, were purpose built to destroy biological tissue rather than metal armour. Typically, they are still devastating when hitting armour.
Their bodies can slowly adapt to situations. However, they need to be within certain radii of any star otherwise they will freeze to death. Or if too close, burn to death.

As their bodies are typically massive, their brains are proportionally larger and therefore extremely smart.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Some form of extrasensory perception that is used to find prey from multiple lightyears away. No species has evolved to utilize psionics to a much higher degree.
There is no other way to quickly find prey from those distances due to the speed of light.
Most troznux species also have eyes to sense light. Some have special eyes that can zoom on distant targets, because space is very large.

History
The Troznux, as well as the other bioships of Arkan, all began as a biological weapon that was engineered by one of the factions previously inhabiting the galaxy. They were engineered to be as powerful in combat as possible, and could even challenge some modern Hyperion Federation ships of current. Due to this power, they have destroyed the other civilizations, simply eating the people and the environments they inhabit.
The various species of Troznux and regular Arkan bioships were engineered by the Harkas. That race would use the bioships to traverse across the galaxy and to participate in their wars.
The Troznux Clans expanded from the Beta Targos System after they were created by the harkas. This expansionism was vital to their survival; their species would require far more stars in order to reproduce. Although they expanded quickly, defeating regular factions seemingly with ease, due to the massive size of the galaxy they wouldn't conquer Arkan fully until many thousands of years in the future. Furthermore, the conditions of the galaxy could also vary massively depending on location. Those closer to the core had higher energy conditions and those within spirals had a higher stellar density.
The spaceborne lifeforms of Arkan then expanded through the entire galaxy. If the whole ecosystem was considered a civilzation, their use of energy would classify them as type III.
The Troznux could not manipulate because they have no arms or other means. Although they made for brilliantly powerful combatants of their own, they would only establish tribes before the arrival of the HF. There were no nations. However during this time they have somewhat genetically drifted due to evolution and have now taken up many forms.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
They and Hyperion Federation starship crews may fly up to each other to say hi. Both sides get a sense of awe. Its similar to real life whale watching, but the whale is significantly larger, and they can communicate.
They will only rarely attempt to fight their natural predators, because space is big and open and the predators usually have the firepower advantage. They will run, avoiding enemy fire. But not always. The HF can give them a sense of safety, as tachyon sensors are more reliable. HF ships can also actually engage outside of visual range.

Troznux have to overcome a large number of obstacles to survive in space. For example:
They need a method of propulsion that is powerful and fast. Relying on a muscular tail is impossible as there is no medium in space to push backwards on.
They need to manage their body heat effectively or it will accumulate and cause the troznux to melt. Heat management is a difficult problem in space as it doesnt conduct into vacuum.
Some need to be able to achieve FTL travel, which is impossible to achieve with raw thrust alone.
A lot of energy would be required to sustain a bioship several km in size, especially for FTL travel.
Solutions to these problems may vary between species, and some might not even solve some of these issues at all, but some common solutions include:
1)
- Propulsion being provided by a fusion reaction taking place in biological thrusters. RCS thrusters can also be used in this way. This requires the creatures using it to sometimes eat hydrogen, such as form gas giants. This can also solve problem 2 sometimes as the body conducts excess heat into the hydrogen.
A drive system similar to HF photon thrusters, emitting photons for thrust. This is a very energy efficient method but requires an extremely powerful bioluminescent organ, which produces heat. This solution is relatively rare, but still common.
A system that relies more on chemical reactions. Fuel is stored in a large gland and created in an additional organ which reacts various substances into fuel. This is energy negative, and considered the point where movement uses energy from the body. It is a similar system (except without the additional organ) that most primitive factions use in space.
2)
Some species heat up their excrements to very high temperatures before removing it from the body.
- Some species emit a heated gas from the body. This requires them to either eat some gas giant hydrogen or produce it in digestion. This is often done through symbiosis with gut bacteria.
3)
- A biological particle collider organ within the body which creates gravitons. This then exploits Graviton Wave Refraction to warp space, similar to a Superluminal Acceleration Warp Drive. This (in rare cases) can even be used for problem 1 as well but this is very rare due to the energy inefficiency of using such a thing for subluminal travel.
- A similar solution to the above, but a particle collider organ instead creates negative mass which warps space rather than graviton refraction. This is less common and efficient and is considered inferior to the above, but is still seen nonetheless. Gravity based manipulation can, in some species, be use for other uses such as gathering food.A biological wormhole drive organ.
4)
All Arkan lifeforms are comprised of a very energy dense form of carbon. When digested, this produces a lot of energy but also requires a lot of energy to make. Due to the energy production, this can potentially sustain FTL trips when the creature eats a lot of food and stores that energy, or has a very efficient digestive system and stores that energy.

The smallest Troznux can be around 2 m long, and the largest can grow up to a massive 8 km
