Teravolt Area Denial Tesla
A potentially brutal tesla based weapon, as developed by the Republic of Vanadia of the Hyperion Federation. It is notable for its ability to target multiple enemy craft at the same time, firing beams of electrons at all of them at once. They are rarely used however, due to their very short range. The Federation is used to striking the enemy from very long range so they cant fight back effectively. Additionally, a second one is required nearby in order to complete the circuit and allow electricity to flow.
The Teravolt functions by firing streams of a highly conductive plasma towards nearby enemy targets. This plasma has the interesting property of clumping to itself and other objects and can transfer this electricity across it. A second Teravolt is shorted to the first Teravolt via a superconducting channel that is run through the ship itself, and fires a similar stream of plasma, completing the circuit. This design allows each Teravolt to fire these plasma streams towards many targets simultaneously. These weapons can apply immense voltages and the conductive path has a very low impedance, so extremely large currents are to be expected when it fires. This can cause EM interference on some more sensitive equipment, but such a huge amount of electricity can heat a target up to immense temperatures and sometimes ionize parts of the target, causing them to turn into a plasma-like state of matter. The EM interference can also happen to the targets, so some commanders also consider the Teravolt a form of ewar weapon.
