Gluon Cannon

Extremely powerful weapon of the Hyperion Federation. The weapon fires streams of gluons which exert immense force over and extremely small area of the enemy armour. As a result, a very powerful strong nuclear force field is placed through the armour of the enemy, causing all particles within it to be launched backwards at extremely high speed. As a result, it is capable of penetrating straight through most ships - even those built from Φ High Energy Technology. As the weapon itself requires Φ Technology to function, this is considered a future weapon of the HF.   Because no shield can protect against the strong nuclear force, the beam from a Gluon Cannon will always ignore shields.   The Gluon Cannon is designed with a very similar role to the Directed Gravitational Beam Cannon (DGBC). However, it has been made far more powerful with new advances in weapons technology, specifically technologies used to create and stabilise gluons. Engineers decided th exchange from the weakest fundamental force to the strongest. Despite its Φ technology requirement, it is very damage-energy efficient because of this. It can easily cause massive amounts of damage to a target. However, the very intricate nature of these gluon stabilising machines means that the weapon must calibrate itself often. This is done automatically within the weapon itself, but must take time to perform. The recalibration speed has been increased several times with various upgrade packages, but it remains the main disadvantage compared to the DGBC. As such, the latter is still in active service.
