Desolation Plasma Railgun

The 'Desolation' Plasma Railgun used and built by the Hyperion Federation. It is essentially a railgun that fires plasma instead of a solid slug. It can fire a large plasma 'bolt' at high velocity, like a railgun. The result is a projectile capable of either melting whatever it hits or going straight through it like a typical railgun. Or sometimes even both.
However, the rails must charge up for a few moments before it can fire.
The rails are charged by an immensely powerful several terawatt power supply, and stored in very strong capacitors which have the advantage of being able to discharge all of this energy in a very short time. It requires a few moments to charge the capacitors because it needs to obtain enough antimatter before it can fire its powerful payload. Also, a lot of its armour is sloped which makes it able to withstand more fire.
The Desolation was designed by a Yunkad engineer that liked playing Conqueror of Galaxies. Although this person was never identified as a proper Ace War-Engineers, he did manage to provide the HF military with a highly valuable techprint, the Desolation finding service due to the sheer large amount of damage it can cause.
