United Nations of Tebburus

The star nation of the Hyperion Federation that represents the Suon species. Named after their homeworld of Tebburus. Also the original founding member of the Federation itself.

Culture

During their very early history, when they looked up at the night sky and saw many stars, they initially thought they were the spirits of their ancestors. As a result these stars became a large part of suon culture, and they soon named many of them. At birth, they are ‘assigned’ a star by their parent, to ‘connect their soul to it’. Destruction of stars, including natural supernovae, might cause distress. Even as science advanced, and they realised what a star actually is, this culture still remained. They became fascinated about the universe, and highly curious people. They feel attached to the stars. Due to their ability to remain dominant in almost all corners of the globe, against all odds, they thought that they could survive almost any environment early in their history. This partly led them to become arrogant, but also determined to explore and colonise their entire planet. Due to a lack of understanding in science at the time, they didnt realise the specific environments require special genes to have a solid chance of living there. Due to the arrogance, determination for exploration, and the stars thing explained above, they have a desire for great adventures and in modern times, are constantly exploring and colonising new worlds, finding all the mysteries the universe has to offer.   One of the suons' holidays is the "lunar festival" where they celebrate the first suon in space (the same day he landed on one of Tasteins moons too). That astronaught uttered “To the stars!” shortly before take off. If not being beamed up, modern suons will typically say that when leaving a planet for space. The holiday often involves travelling to the nearest moon for part of a day and celebrate their interstallar capabilities and their influence on the intergalactic scale.   Another is Victory Day, celebrated on the day Tastein won the unification war, forming TF. There are only a few thousand survivors of said unification war are left however, they make speeches and share stories. This day is also used to remember the fallen in not only this war but all others, such as the eternal war, and victories of other wars are celebrated later in the day as well.   A popular sport that originated with the Suons is [name pending], involving the use of armed space fighters, which are sent into a (virtual) battle. Each team can engineer their own craft to suit their needs. There is another, [name pending], where several teams attempt to conquer a (virtual) planet, using war machines, which the teams can engineer themselves in a similar fashion as the above sport. When the Saelians initially played this, they knew they could not hope to rival the Suons in their technology and engineering capability, so the Saelians used their own strength of bio engineering, and used biological terrors built for war. They won a number of tournaments like this.   The Suons have always relied on their ingenuity for their survival and probably always will. Advanced technology and marvels of engineering are highly respected in their culture as a result.   When a loved one passes, or a significant person such as a war-engineer or government worker, it is common for suons to mourn and honour their loss by placing weapons next to them. They are returned to nature in the easiest and safest way possible that is out of sight, usually by burial near the current location, but sometimes the body is diced and fed to local wildlife. The suons dont have cemeteries (they have a different culture) but their deceaced are remembered by an entry in the Grand Archive, where friends and family can upload details and/or images involving the person. However, due to the strange biology of any Tebburus native species, such as suons, it may be difficult for the local wildlife to recycle the biomass if its not a similar ecosystem as that of Tebburus.
