Glass-shaping Tradition / Ritual in THF Universe | World Anvil

Glass-shaping

Glass-shaping is a sport event practiced by Suons. Although it once had many uses during the early Tebburus Unification War, it has been automated after the invention of Replicators. However, many cultures on that world held glass-shaping as a strongly - rooted tradition.   In glass - shaping, multiple teams compete to form pieces of glass in a limted time. They are judged based on hardness, precision and quantity of items. As all of these traits had uses during the Unification War, they are held to a high degree of respect.    Hardness is measured by several types of strength - including but not limted to tensile and compressive strength. These are measured quantitatively (the hardness is measured scientifically. There is a unit of measurement for hardness)   Precision is measured by the accuracy of the angles of the object. For example, if the team planned to make a convex lens, the lens will be expected to be extremely smooth. They are allowed to make a large, intricate artwork out of glass, involving many high detail, precision cuts. This shows the judges the attention to detail that the arists have.   Quantity of items is measured by the number of objects the team has submitted within the time limit. To prevent a team from submitting an immense number of initial cuts, the other 2 criteria impact this.   Glass-shaping has been practiced many times over the years. It is usually scored using a very specific and precisely tuned scoring plan. This way, the sport is balanced regardless of how easy or difficult it is to build the initial plan.

History

Glass - shaping has a very long history. It has been a thing since the early Unification War in about 800 BU. Back then, it was an actual profession. It is still performed approximately 44 800 years after its inception.

Components and tools

All teams can use a wide variety of various tools. Although many safety measures are kept in place, they can use equipment like blowtorches, curring lasers, various kinds of pliers and many more. Most modern technologies such as multitools are banned.
