Vannus
A planet in the Tiact System. Vannus is the planet that is closest to Tiact.
This makes the planet extremely hot, but not as hot as Haxis (which traps in most heat due to its very thick atmosphere).
Vannus is also heavily laden with minable metal resources. Perhaps the greatest export for the world is mercury atoms. Entire oceans of liquid mercury are found on the world. This is then exported to space using a space elevator and used in matter plasma to provide Replicators with ingredients to build objects.
These pools of mercury were valuable enough for the United Nations of Tebburus and Saelian Coalition to fight over despite the complete lack of survivable biosphere. Many were killed in these battles but eventually the Suons would obtain control, bravely fighting off the Saelians.
Due to the amount of metal in the rocks, the entire planet looks mostly grey from orbit. It is however easy to distinguish the mercury from actual land because they are different shades of grey. Also visible is the space elevator that provides supplies to the mining groups and delivers mercury and other metals to orbit. Vannus also has a strong magnetic field, protecting those on the surface from harmful solar radiation.
The Battle of Vannus
The planet saw itself in a battle between the Saelian Coalition and United Nations of Tebburus. The former occupied the planet first, and this was long before the space elevator was built.
Fire Suons could fight in the extremely hot conditions far better than saelians but despite that the saelians fought incredibly well as the defenders and have managed to kill a large number of enemies. This pyrrhic victory was the result of such a long, bloody war.
The UN of Tebburus has attempted orbital bombardment but the saelians managed to hide themselves very well. Due to the ability of suons to remain very accurate over long distance and even extreme emotion, morale seemed to have little impact on their accuracy. This somewhat made up for their lack of numbers compared to the Saelian forces as they could pick them off from long range. Other than this, the suons understood they were outgunned and outnumbered.
Due to the massive ambient heat, infrared vision was not viable. Sometimes, naval battles have even been fought over the liquid mercury oceans. Though the saelians relied primarily on flying discs, Suon warships could target larger ones with their primary weapons. Over land those were countered using massive ground based weapons.
Tebburus forces slowly pushed deeper and deeper into Saelian territory. This was difficult as they were so well concealed but the Saelian forces were eventually pushed back to a single point from where they managed to retreat. Mostly. A lot of the retreating ships were destroyed by the Suon starships still orbiting the planet.
