Oriaphia

Oriaphia is the fey capitol of the Eastern Fey Wilds. It is where the archfey, the Duke of Oriaphia, resides. Though it is considered a city to the fey, other civilizations see it as a large citadel, as the place is one large crystal fortress bursting out of the leaf like a flower head. Like its sister city on the other side of the leaf, Fey Banquet, Oriaphia is a center of fey partying, though the ruler is far more capricious than the Fairy Queen. Unlike Fey Banquet, Oriaphia is quite politically active amongst the lesser races in the center region of the leaf. Oriaphia as connections to Dakath, prominent entertainment troupes, the Bludgeon Halls, and foreign powers such as the Shadar-kai empire and the Aarakocra nest.

It is a dukedom ruled by the Duke of Oriaphia, an archfey. His word is law.

History

Oriaphia was born with the Duke around the same time as Fey Banquet, but unlike the Fairy Queen who showed reverence and gratitude to Summer for her birth with her city, the Duke went for a more independent and rebellious state. As a powerful being, the Duke would interfere with the natives, offering his influence and aid here, giving his ire there, and doing all that arbitrarily and capriciously. Also, the Duke has for the past two millennia set up this event for the power hungry called the Trials of Inheritance where the Duke will give his dukedom to whoever could pass the ten trials he offers. There has been only a handful of successes throughout history, only one after the arrival of the lesser races by a Shadar-Kai paladin during the Sundering. During those periods, the rule of Oriaphia is given to the victor until they die and the archfey reclaims his throne. This is all done for entertainment purposes. To this day, people from all about the Veritian Leaf come to tryouy the trials, most of them perishing in the attempt. Many see Oriaphia as a colosseum to transcend rather than a city to visit. Others view as a place to dump their diehard heroes they want nothing to do with.
