Vigil

Vigil is a small town in the southwestern part of Tumult. Ruled by a mostly absentee elf named Lord Clearseeker, this town is center of commerce for the western portion of the Tumult wheat fields and farm lands. It is also the closest town to the Western Fey Wilds.

Demographics

Mostly human with an assortment of other races. Have also been receiving an influx of halfling refugees from Evermore.

Government

Vigil has a localized feudal like system, where the Lord gets a fifth of produce grown in the area as tax and has the authority to levy local troops. It is a border town with an inept leader, so the region tends to be free for better or worse.

Defences

The town has a basic wall and a platoon of town guard. They also have a keep, though it is ill maintained for warfare. It is enough to propel bandit raids or fey attacks, but little to stop any actual military.

Industry & Trade

It is mostly agrarian.

Assets

They have a surplus and overabundance of grain stored, which they use to quell banditry and poverty. This is one of the reasons refugees from the south go towards Vigil rather than the other border city of Tumult, Pinecone.

History

Founded by Lord Clearseeker's father as a western post, it became moderately prosperous in the region with the influx of farmers to work the wheat fields. Other than that, there was not much to note to this town until the year 1030 when the Dormant Cult attempted to take it and begin their conquest of Tumult. This event was later called the Vigil Victory, as the town propelled the cultists from the south.

Geography

Vigil borders the Western Fey Wilds, so it is close to a dense forest. It is mainly prairie.

Natural Resources

Grain for days. Though Crossroads and Pinecone are larger producers of wheat in Tumult, Vigil is no pushover. Much of their grain is sold internationally to Val'ul, Silihadron and Break. They also have a forestry industry, but it is mostly to slow the advance of the Western Fey Wilds.
