Pinecone

Pinecone is the main city of the Pinecone province on the south eastern side of Tumult. It and the region was shared between two noble families, the Van Hydens and the Salmonpuddles, though the Salmonpuddles were more involved in the workings of the city proper. This city and region was the main one affected by the Val'ul war of secession, with its eastern side becoming a swamp in the conflict. But it was otherwise very prosperous, as the wheat production of the region was unrivalled on the Veritian Leaf. They cannot seem to harvest the grain fast enough.

Demographics

The city has a mixed demographic, as workers migrate there regularly for the abundance of agricultural labour needed to harvest the region.

Government

The Salmonpuddles rule over the city, choosing the mayor who would lead the town. Since the Salmonpuddles are no more, King Bedrich has taken over the process. But, the local population waits and hopes for the return of the Salmonpuddles.

Defences

Their defenses were minor, with a outdated wall patched up with a palisade structure. The lost of the Salmonpuddles leadership has shown a decline in the upkeep of the city, with most the wealth of the region being syphoned to Felicity.

Industry & Trade

It is a farming city, and since the Green Revolution of the 9th century, has been consistently shipping out grain throughout the world. They are the reason for the low food prices, as they cannot farm the stuff fast enough. They also grow other grains and crops for variety, but wheat is their main product.

History

The region was minor at first, serving as one of several food producing regions. Though most of Tumult was still subsistence living in the early years, Pinecone went under the radar until the Green Revolution of 870, where the Pineconians harnessed the power of the scar in the Veritian Leaf to tap into the Neih's vast natural power. Once the wheat started growing, it never stopped, leaving the farmers in the region only having to clear land of brush to make room for the oncoming crop wave. They have been harvesting ever since, despite the conflicts that plagued the region. This brought prosperity to Tumult, as without the need to concern for food, the people turned to more productive avenues to prosperity.   The Val'ul war of secession (926-935) truly affected the region, destroying much of the built up glory. It scarred the region, and made the general mood of the wealthy to simply take from it and not invest back into. The Salmonpuddles tried to change this opinion, but they were soon hit by the disease that decimated that family. Thus, not much rebuilding happened after the war, unless it served a practical use in resource extraction.   In 1000, Doctor Caskajaro moved to the region to inherit the estate from his ailing uncle. That uncle found a Lantern of Sorrow, and was driven mad by it. It could be argued that Caskajaro was corrupted as well, as his dread experiments made him into a necrotic overlord that plagued the region until his death in 1040. He even conquered Pinecone for a stint in 1040 before Kourend Salmonpuddle ousted his forces out.

Architecture

While a wealthy settlement, the infrastructure does not seem to mirror that prosperity. Ever since the Val'ul war of secession, the region has been reluctant to build any large and impressive structures, sticking to basic wooden forms and functional designs. This gives the city a farm town aesthetic despite its size. The wealthy tend to build their luxurious places up north in Felicity, leaving this region a mostly pragmatic architectural design. The scattering of ruined investments litter the region, plundered during the war, reminders to keep your profits secure.

Geography

West of Pinecone is the vast wheat fields of southern Tumult. East is a swamp caused by the warfare of the Val'ul war of secession.
