West Harbor

Located on the northern borders of the Zennonaize Confederacy, West Harbor has grown steadily since Dono Ryukyu Fleet-Foot first ordered its construction for his sister. The town sprawls along the southern banks of the Wandering River and the shores of the Zennon Sea in a vee-like shape with a single main road running from west to east and then curving south at the river's mouth. Along the river-facing spoke of vee are the various estates of nobles, each surrounded by the barns and pastures for their herds and the hovels for the serfs that support them. Closer to the sea estates become more tightly packed, with some having no more land than a herd path leading south to pastures a league or more town. Others have no pastureland to speak of, instead driving their cattle and horses north across the shallow river into what is technically the Nerrid Alliance to graze.

While the citizens of West Harbor will scoff in public at the notion of the small folk objecting to their cattle using the land. In private, however, none are old enough to remember the days when Nerrid walked up and down the street in town. Only a few cattle wranglers have even seen the diminutive folk in the foothills further west. This absence has fostered wild rumors about the nature of the devious Nerrid. None remember why the Nerrid stopped coming to town over a century ago and few would change it.

Closer to the point of the vee is a more proper town, filled with shops, taverns, and flophouses that cater to the regiment of Cavalry stationed in West Harbor to keep the peace and protect the Dono's interests. As the road turns south along the harbor, the taverns become seedier and docks line the shore, filled with small fishing craft. The harbor, like the river itself, is extremely shallow. While this makes for an excellent habitat for clams and mussels, it means that the rare ocean-going vessel - generally from Wargun or more rarely a galleon from Eldoria, must dock several hundred feet offshore.
