Zennonaize Cavalry
Famous throughout Tarien, the army of the Zennonaize Confederacy consists solely of different mounted units, each with a varying speciality. While its true that most of these horsemen bear short flails, the trademark of the Cavalry, most use it as a secondary weapon. Some units specialize in the light lance while others perform admirably as highly mobile archers. Still others charge into battle with sabres held high, fierce cries coming from fu-man-chu ringed mouths, the traditional facial hair of a cavalryman. The less skilled are armed with crossbows and spears, firing en-masse before charging their foe - their horses as much of a weapon as their pointed sticks.
Like their armaments, however, they are not really a single unified army. Each of Zennonaize nobles has a small force of his or her own, which they use to patrol their borders, often raiding another noble's holdings. Skirmishes between houses are not uncommon and their skill in mounted skirmishes is legendary. Should their liege call them, the lesser nobles provide his or her troops to supplement the liege's, but they retain their original command structure. This means that instead of thousands of archers in a battalion, each group has a mix of different types of soldiers, limiting the effectiveness of larger armies. This limitation - and the fact that they possess no military ships, does not stop them form banding together every few years to attempt a siege of Gartcha under the banner of a particularly powerful noble.
