Wolfgang the Horse Whisperer

Nerrid Horse Trader

For a second son, Wolfgang has done exceptionally well for himself. Eschewing the traditions that relegate second sons and daughters to more menial trades, Wolfgang set out to see the wide world and try his hand at business shortly after his fiftieth winter. His travels naturally took him into the Malpighien Steppes first, as they stretched beyond the southern border of the Nerrid Peninsula. It was here that he first saw horses and immediately fell in love. Wolfgang had, of course, seen mules and ponies working in his homeland, but the sleek coats and raw power one sees in a thoroughbred Zennonaize stallion stole his heart. His mind made up, he vowed to learn all he could about these magnificent creatures.

Like any good Nerrid, Wolfgang began his studies by reading everything that the Zennonaize had written - a good four or five books that he found in Gartcha. Full of knowledge, he set off to find work. After dazzling his future employer - a merchant in need of a groom on his journeys - with his newfound knowledge, Woflgang had his first job. Sadly, his inability to repair a horse who threw a shoe cost him that job on his first day. Several other false starts later, including a harrowing escape from a Hill Giant who, much to his dismay, did not believe Wolfgang when told that raw horseflesh would upset his stomach, and Wolfgang began to understand that he required practical knowledge. And so he enlisted as a groom and farrier in the Zennonaize Cavalry, serving without distinction for half a decade before retiring to purchase his first horse, a stallion of dubious health but incredulous lineage. Several horse trades later and he had earned the ironic nickname of "Horse Whisperer".

Forty years later and Wolfgang has settled into an easy life in the outskirts of Wargun, buying and selling horses, ponies, cattle, and even the occasional mule to anyone in this particular generation who has not yet purchased something from him. Fortunately, as Wolfgang is wont to say, there are so many humans, there is always another buyer.

While not exactly famous, most of those involved in the Wargun horse trade are familiar with this copper haired Nerrid and his propensity to get the best of any deal. Having residing just outside the city and plied his trade for four decades he has caused the heads of two generations of Zennonaize to shake, frown, and even spit when they say his name.
