Chestnut River
Along with its more northerly neighbor, the Dun River, the red clay bed of the Chestnut River forms one edge of Wargun where it flows in the Mali River at the edge of Wartin Gulf. The small river is deep enough for ships for less than a league but for small, flat bottom boats for at least a dozen leagues. Beyond that, the river runs fairly deep, ranging from four to ten feet, but becomes extremely narrow, in some places less than a yard across, as it travels through the deep grasses of the Malpighien Steppes. Many a horseman has stumbled into the river, its banks completed obscured by high grasses. Its source is somewhat of a mystery, the water spilling out of a waterwall on a small mesa, perhaps twenty feet in height. Few have climbed the mesa, however, as its top is obscured by strange red mists. None who have made the climb have returned with any memory of their journey or the water's source.
