Tharichen Settlement in Tarien | World Anvil

Tharichen

Situated at a bend in the Mali River, where it bends its course east toward the Wartin Gulf, Tharichen is, for much of the year, a miserable town in the middle of the Malpighien Steppes. A number of low, stone buildings make up the village where a permanent residents include three wheelwrights, two blacksmiths, and a half-dozen innkeepers. Huge fenced in pastures run along the river, each carefully mended all summer to receive the cattle being driven west, from the Confederacy's furthest flung baronies at the feet of the Rheuthengage Mountains as the head for the markets of Zennon. This traffic, which lasts almost all of the Harvest Moon, produces half of the income for that villagers see each year.

The other half comes in the denaries surrounding Kingsday, Thirdden, in the Water Moon. It is during these days, when the village's famous lilac bushes area a riot of lavender, that some of the Confederacy's wealthiest nobles and finest horsemen descend for the ultimate social and martial event of the year - Race for the Lilacs. Inns overflow, setting up dozens of tables under great tents outside to serve the throng that makes the journey each year to see the horse race.

Between these two events, however, the village slumbers, taking a well earned siesta in the summer heat after the race or a long winter's hibernation following the cattle drives.
