Personal history
Thomas Jordan Arcane was born in 1979 to a family with a tendency toward healthy, stable mutant powers. A genius kid who sometimes hyperfixated on a particular interest, with two genius parents who sometimes each hyperfixated on their respective interests, it may have been inevitable that puberty would bring with it a clash of priorities. He ran away from home in 1992, determined to give himself a chance to be a "real kid" before adult responsibilities could crush him. This led to joining a dangerous local gang.
He also developed a recurring health problem. Thomas forged a parental note and got an older-looking member of his gang to escort him to a Bio-Investigations Limited free clinic, where they narrowed down the potential causes of his trouble to a likely genetic disorder. An unrelated research group in Boston, they told him, has recently been asking around for likely candidates to test a treatment: if you won't contact St. Jude's for help, then tell your parents to at least consider this research group.
Thomas did not go to either of the referred options. He did his own research and weighed the risks: these people might be able to help him, but they would certainly dump him back into his parents' care.
What he never knew was that the well-intentioned clinic doctor also made inquiries into the Boston group's study. That drew the attention of Infinity Inc Acquisitions staff, who stole the Bio-Investigations records.
On September 20th, the Hybrid Minion program acquired a new subject.

Nineteen-year-old Thomas tried to figure out how this "Steel Breath" stuff worked. He was not expecting it to mutate a potted plant to the point that it became a person. He immediately stepped up to his new role as parent to this child, and their relationship has been solid ever since.
Nicknames & Petnames
Bubba calls Thomas "Dad" when out of school and out of costume. He sometimes gets flustered in school and calls Thomas "Mr. Dad" because the other students call him "Mr. Jordan". If either one of them is "in costume", Bubba may call him "Silverwing" or may call him "SuperDad".
Thomas calls his son "Bubba" most of the time, though "Peanut" was a private term of endearment when Bubba was small. Thomas has not gotten used to the idea of his son having a superhero identity yet, so "Quickbranch" does not come naturally.
History
They met as peers in the prototype unit of Infinity Inc's Hybrid Minion creation program, when Thomas was thirteen and Rissa was 21. She tried, when she was able, to shield him from the worst of their captors' abuse. Thomas tried, when he found an opportunity, to sneak unmodified food and information to her. When they successfully escaped in 1997, it was because they escaped as a team rather than making solitary attempts. The team split up to confuse pursuit, but Thomas reconnected to Rissa once he had recuperated.
Silverwing is, in fact, Thomas Jordan Arcane, an instructor and inventor at the Gironde School for the Gifted.
