Tina Grewal, has the ability to phase through solid objects. She thought this was really cool when she first developed it during puberty -- "just like Kitty Pryde!" -- until she also discovered that she could shoot energy beams out of her eyes. Then she spent two years having frequent migraines that would cause her to accidentally fall out of her bedroom and into the basement. She's a student in Metropolis, occasionally helps run the technology classes for the kids, and has more economic sense than the rest of her colleagues put together. She's all-but-married to Thomas.

ShadowStar has the natural ability to alter the molecular state of her own body to let her - or anything she touches - 'phase' through solid objects as if a ghost. If she does this to a person, they feel nothing more than a little lightheaded for a moment from the effect.
She later developed a secondary power of being able to generate focused beams of plasma energy through her eyes. The current theory is that this is an outgrowth of her powers which have a strong natural connection to the fourth state of matter: plasma.
Through training she has been able to use this connection to create a pyrotechnic reaction in objects or sense her surroundings with plasma wave pulses in a 'radar' like fashion. No harm comes to anything or anyone nearby when she uses this 'radar sense', which is her term for it. She can only cause the pyrotechnic reaction if she is 'phased'.

History
Tina was a member of Wyldfire when Thomas arrived in late 1997. The attraction between the semi-professional computer hacker and the self-taught mathematician could have come straight out of a television drama!
They got engaged in the summer of 2002, more due to social pressure from the extended Grewal family than due to personal preference. Sometime before spring of 2005, they officially ended the engagement and -- as a united front -- told Tina's parents that no formal, spiritual, legal, or otherwise "marriage" would be taking place. Tina and Tom were already a family, already raising a child together, and perfectly happy until they started trying to live according to other people's expectations.

History
Tina and Bubba had a cordial but casual relationship before the villain attack that radically altered Bubba's physical and mental abilities. Since then, she has been his second parent in every important context, from teaching him to read to supervising his nutrition and medical care to comforting him when he is frightened or lonely or frustrated. Even when Tom and Tina went through a difficult patch in their romance, Tina has always been a reliable daily feature in Bubba's life.

Grayson Paxton calls his sometimes-brother's mother "Tante Tina" unless they are in costume, in which case he will probably recall that her name is "ShadowStar" rather than "Tante Star!"
Tina sometimes calls Grayson "Jambul" after a fun incident when he was a toddler and got into a bowl of fruit paste she had set aside to make Black Plum Sorbet. To this day, she still claims to spot a bit of it in the fur behind his ears.
