Ruslavia

Welcome to Ruslavia

Ruslavia is a setting based on medieval Russian and Slavic folklore and fairytales. The land of Ruslavia is split into six main areas, outlined here:

Cherti Mountains

The Cherti Mountains of the West are a highly religious territory, following the Orthobog religion of the two brother gods Belabog and Chernabog. Recently they have started setting their sights eastward towards their pagan neighbours, with a missionary zeal.

Forest of Frost

The Forest of Frost is a magical conniferous forest full of pagan magic and spirits. Just watch out for the powerful hag covens, not to mention the grandmother witch herself, Baba Yaga!

Hoary Wastes

The Hoary Wastes are in a constant war with the rest of Ruslavia, with seemingly no goal other than to consume the other states into itself. Trolls, giants, mounted dwarves and even some of the Zmei make up the attacking hordes.

Ketterzan

Wealthy Ketterzan is the central region of Ruslavia, and its capital Ketterburg is the seat of the Tzar of Ruslavia.

Moss Covia

Southern Moss Covia is a thin coastal strip, rife with pirates, thugs and gangsters. Visitors enter at their own peril, but the possible gains that can be found at the blackmarkets make it a worthwhile risk. Just as long as they have enough gold that they can afford to avoid the most treacherous areas.

Sabrelands

The frozen tundra of the Sabrelands, ruled by the Winter Witches lies at the north of Ruslavia. Winter Wolves, Worgs and other creatures who have adapted to the Boreal climate stalk this dangerous territory.

The Age of Before

... 0

Anything that happened longer ago than official Cherti Mountain records place the beginning of all things.

  • The Birth of the Witches
    The Covenant of the Witches
    Diplomatic action

Witch Queen Baba Yaga makes a pact with first hag witches where, even if witches and hags have individual patrons, they also all contractually belong to her. A tapestry in her Chicken-Legged Hut records this event. Whenever a witch accepts a patron or joins a coven, it is woven into the tapestry.

The Age of the Ancients

1 700

The era before the grandmother of a grandmother elf (the longest lived common race) would be able to personally remember.

The Age of Long Ago

701 1000

Some of the older races would have parents or grandparents who had lived through these times, but (it is assumed) no-one alive would remember them.

The Age of Our Grandmothers

1001 1200

Living memory for some of the older races. Grandmothers, or the grandmothers of grandmothers of some of the younger races, would have lived in these times.

The Age of Now

1201 and beyond

Living Memory.
