Halfling

Cheerful and welcoming, but quick to turn, Halflings originally hail from Moss Covia, where they are best known for the two organised crime gangs: the Polubanda and the Bratva Brotherhood. Although some have ventured further afield, most have chosen to remain where they are most welcome.   The Halfling-run Bellflower Network fights against the ongoing Elven tyranny over the Halflings. Many Halflings have returned to the traditions and customs of the Old Beliefs in recent years, in protest agaist the new Orthobog religion, which they percieve to be the new Elven invasion.

Major Organizations

Being a historically oppressed group, Halflings have turned to several different organisations for protection.

By far the nicest of the Halfling organisations is the Bellflower Network, a group of freedom fighters who have dedicated themselves to freeing the remaining Kholop Halflings from slavery. They are currently focussing their efforts on liberating the Halfling Miners in the Cherti Mountains. Although they are amenable to peaceful protest, they more readily resort to violent explosive attacks on their targets.

The Polubanda is an organised crime gang of pirates, thieves and illicit traders. They control the supply chain from Pristan docktown and run the blackmarket there, where you can access anything and everything so long as it's at least a little shady. They tiptoe around the law, staving off the forces of Ketterzan and Moss Covia by supplying who they need to with dangerous weapons and materials, and making certain very important people very rich.

The Bratva Brotherhood is a crime family that runs the laketown of Ozero. The Bratva Brotherhood is extremely protective of its members and will shield them from outside threats, making them an appealing organisation for criminals, Kholops or runaway serfs who might not survive alone. The Brotherhood relishes violence and will jump on any opportunity to avenge the smallest slight to one of their own. Within the organisation itself, the Pakhan ("Leader") has complete control, and the brothers must complete macho, often dangerous trials to prove their loyalty. Every brother must undergo an initiation ritual at the end of which their right eye is gourged out and the socket filled with molten gold.

History

Historically, Halflings have been an enslaved people, and even today there is still a group of Kholop Halflings, who are put to work in the mines and fields of the Cherti Mountains. This has fostered a deep mistrust of Elves, the main culprits of the Halfling oppression. Halflings will never forgive the Mountain Elves for their leaders' treacherous undermining of the Declaration of Halfling Personhood.
