Orthobog

The Orthobog religion is the new religion that is taking hold of Ketterzan, having been brought by missionaries and Teutonics from the monasteries, churches and citadels of the Cherti Mountains. It is a religion of dualities. It has two deities, Belabog and Chernabog, and two denominations (The Church of the White God The Church of the Black God, respectively).

Cosmological Views

In the Orthobog religion, the world began in the year 1 of the Cherti Calendar. The story of The Parting of the Two Brothers (Belabog and Chernabog) is the religion's origin story. It tells of how the two brothers disagreed in the creation of people, with Chernabog going against his brother's wishes and giving people free will. The two churches of Orthobog have differing views on the morality of Chernabog's actions, with the Church of the White God arguing that Chernabog brought evil into Belabog's perfect creation and the Church of the Black God insisting that creating beings who could enjoy and appreciate the world was a good act.

There are two sects of the Orthobog religion, and both are competing for dominance across Ruslavia.

Its capital is the Gora Monastery, which is situated in the northern Vysota Mountain Range of the Cherti Mountains.   The Church of the White God is divided into three orders: the Kultura, the Mishkinaries and the Inkvitsition. The Kultura Order oversees the cultural development of the church and commissions great works of art, literature and music to promote and celebrate the glory of Belabog. The Mishkinary Order, overseen by Disciple Mishki, spreads the religion across the rest of Ruslavia, whether that be in the high courts as ambassadors or spies, or among the pagan peasants who live in the villages. When the Mishkinary efforts are unsuccessful, the final order, the Inkvitsition, has more direct methods for insuring conversion. They also weed out heretics and remenants of the pagan lifestyle within the church itself.
