Ketterpesh
The village of Ketterpesh is nestled in the north east of the state of Ketterzan, near the state border and within walking distance of the Forest of Frost. Although it is a small village without very many inhabitants and buildings, the structures are spaced out more than they are in the cities: even this far north where temperatures hover around freezing, there is always the very real chance of fires, which can easily spread from wooden building to wooden building.
Main Landmarks:
There are several main points of interest in the village.Apothecary
The village apothecary provides potions and other chemicals for the villagers. It is run by gnome Naddie and her half-orc apprentice Kezia.Banya
The bathouse is the ultimate equaliser of the village. Everyone from the Posadnik down to the poorest peasant uses the same Banya. It is also a good place to go to learn about the local politics and gossip. Not a lot of privacy though. Even if you think you're alone, the Bannik (Spirit of Baths) will most likely be listening.Blacksmith
Unlike many other villages of its size, Ketterpesh has a dedicated Blacksmith. Kuznetsova and her daughter Kuznetsovina run the Blacksmith together, and create jewellery, tools, weapons and other metal work. The Kuznetsov blacksmith tools can be distinguised by their Winter Wolf logo, a callback to the Kuznetsov family's roots in the Sabrelands.Eternal Fire
Although fire is dangerous, the villagers of Ketterpesh also realise its necessity for staying alive. Local legend tells that if the fire is ever left to go out, Winter will gain access to the village and take a child each night until the fire is restored.Kolodets Well
The well is an important structure. As well as providing safe drinking water, the water can help put out fires if necessary. It is also believed that Kolodet, the Samovila spirit of the well, can grant wishes.Market
The market is set up in the village at all seasons, and travelling merchants, who move from village to village circulating their wares, sometimes stay for a day or two on their journey between the northern territories and the captial. If you want to find more exotic items in the village, this is where to go.Meadhall
After a hard day's work, the villagers of Ketterpesh often gather together to eat communally in Meadhall. Conflict is forbidden inside its walls, and the prospect of frostbite in the night air if a disagreement were to be taken outside is often enough to settle disputes.Storehouse
The Storehouse is where food, cloths, animals and other resources are kept safe.Story Stone
Story Stone is located at the village's eternal flame. Newcomers and visitors to the village are required to tell a story on their first night.Veche Court
Veche Court is presided over by Posadnik Kaizo Agapov. Anyone of any age, station and gender can bring issues to the Posadnik and request they be resolved. Outsiders are given this courtesy also, although a villager must vouch for them before they are allowed to raise their concerns.Government
Ketterpesh is located in the northern section of the state of Ketterzan, which is owned and governed by Prince Dmitri. The prince's influence is not especially felt in this remote village, apart from in times of heavy war when villagers are likely to be conscripted into the prince's Druzhina.
