Rynock Settlement in Ruslavia | World Anvil

Rynock

Rynock is the second largest city in Ketterzan, after the capital, and the state's main trading city with the Cherti Mountains. It is in the West Ketterzan principality, ruled by Prince Yuri, and has unofficially adopted the Orthobog as its state religion although it hasn't specifically subscribed to either of the main churches (White or Black).

Government

While Rynock is known for its great trading industry, and boasts that anything can be bought within the market walls if there is enough the gold to pay for it, this belies the harsh hierarchy of the city's commercial structure. The powerful Guildya, the official overseers of the professional guilds of Ruslavia, enforce strict trading laws and only guild members are legally allowed to sell their wares. The Orthobog religion has a significant hold over the city, and goods that would be considered heretical to the churches are not permitted.   Although an underground bootleg trade of artifacts from the Old Beliefs and more shady, dangerous items does exist in Rynock, these illicit tradings are heavily policed, and the penalty for being caught selling and buying these euphimistically termed "fringe items" can be brutal. A buyer looking for such fringe items might be more successful (and, ironically, safer) risking their chances in the gangster-run blackmarket of Pristan docktown.

Industry & Trade

All day, the market town is full of merchants and buyers of all genders, races and species. Sellers of silk and cloth, silversmiths, saddlemakers, shoemakers, tailors, furriers, beltmakers, hatmakers, blacksmiths, bakers, butchers, candlestick makers and every other variety of trader imaginable have their own streets where they offer their wares.

Districts

Rynock is a grand market town, devoted to commerce and trade. Each street is lined with booths and huts where the crafters and sellers of each variety of thing are grouped in the same place. As an example, there is a metal-working district, where all the metal crafters congregate, and within the distrct are distinct streets, alleys and stalls for each kind of metal worker: e.g. goldsmith boulevard, farrier lane, the armouries and more.
