Trimarin Vehicle in Didome | World Anvil

Trimarin

Trimarins are the dominate boat used by the Marite's in the Den Mar. The boat is composed of a central hull with two smaller out rigger floats that can be extended or retracted depending on the mobility needs of the boat. With outriggers retracted the boat can navigate the smaller tidal streams in the areas of the marsh that have dense shrubs, and when the out riggers are extended the boat becomes extremely stable and can sail easily in rough open water. Finally the poles of the outrigger can be detached and used to create a temporary nighttime dwelling called a Thurth.

Propulsion

Trimarins hve three main methods of propulsion. For long distance travel they are a square rigged sailing ships with a central square sail. When additional speed or maneuverability is needed they can be rowed by 2 people. Finally, in shallow water they can shunted along using a several meter long pole.

Additional & auxiliary systems

The main purpose of a Trimarin is to provide a comfortable means of transport for a Marite family. This means that the hull has lots of cargo storage. In the middle of the central deck a canvas is set up in an a frame manner to provide a shaded area for relaxing and resting. In stable seas or when the ship is beached, the rear of the ship includes a small iron cook stove. This stove is removed and used as the heat source in a Thurth during the long cold night.
