Marsh Rot

The title Marsh Rot is a derogatory name for the people who live in the Den Shar and often raid the commerce on the lake. Nil Yeni consider them to nothing more than brigands that live in the marsh and raid lake river craft. In fact the term Rotter is a term to describe a pirate and comes from the term marsh rot. The Denites  are group of semi nomadic lake people of consider the Den Shar to be scared. They live on the lake and get most of their sustenance from the lake.   Most Nil Yeni don't understand this and consider them to be brigands and ner do wells. The Denite people receive lots of abuse where ever they travel. In fact in some cities such as, Delfi they are no allowed in the city. They claim the that the Denites attack the trade ships that use the Great Portage. However, the Denites do allow some trade ships through their swamps and are more of a competitor then pirate.   Many rumors abound that while savages the Denites have amassed lots of wealth which they have hidden in their marsh, this had led some to seek it out, and when they never return it fuels rumors of the Denites barbarity.   The notion that the Denites are nothing more than brigands and pirates is fueled by the Ballard of the rotten boat. Which tell of a famous Denite Pirate Hoveard who supposedly terrorized the three lakes. It is in this tale that he accumulates a small fortune and hides it in the swamp, and then disappears into the swamp never to be seen again. Many treasure hunter have vowed to find his treasure.
