Intergalactic scale republic. In their early history, they tried to send rockets to space but these exploded. The deaths resulting from this terrified their people, so they automated the rockets. Even today, they are still terrified of the thought of going to space at all, always sending automations to space. They adapted other methods of interplanetary travel, specifically, their teleporters can reach across vast distances. As hacking their drones can have a far more profound impact on their faction, they had to develop technologies to make them much harder to hack. Their hacking ability is even better than that of the Hyperion Federation.
The SR is on the HF side of the Fracture.
When the first contact between the SR and HF happened, the HF was very confused. Is this an AI faction or not? Where are the people? They found out eventually, initially sending very complex mathematical equations to establish some sort of communication method. It took the HF 36 years to decode their language. When this happened, it was found that the HF and SR have things in common - both factions try to keep their people happy. The SR did not want to join the HF though - as they value their own independence.
Early in their history, the To'rer'ot people used their hologram projector organs for deception. Before they had technoloy, these were used to decieve predators and buy enough time to get away. A part of this strategy has come into the modern culture of the To'rer'ot people, and now they have holographic projectors similar to those of the HF as well as their own cloaking devices which are not Subspatial Starships. These allow the SR to more easily move past enemy territories which have Subspatial Starship Detectors.
The SR democratically elects a leader every 5 years. No one person can serve more than 2 terms before they cannot be elected again. Although it is not entirely mandatory to vote in the SR, their culture highly encourages it so that those who would not otherwise vote do not regret having not voted after an election. Although the SR is larger than the Hyperion Federation and several other nearby large factions, their alliance with the HF has caused some other factions to attmpt to band together to destroy the HF-SR alliance. All of these attacks have failed, but not without significant cost to both the HF and SR.
The SR has also focused most of their weapon development resources on railguns. These railguns are very powerful and, in some cases, can achieve incredible fire rates. The To'rer'ot have been known for innovations with this technology, such as in superlunimal weapons platforms and even in shotgun-like devices relatively similar to the Hyperion Federation 'Sarissa' Railgun System. Their high velocity railguns give their armed forces an incredible amount of range which can be beaten by light based weapons or superluminal weapons due to the sheer distances involved.
