Yytu
Planet in the Utuy System, a very early colony of the Tyu race.
Yytu is a relatively cold planet and located quite far from its parent star. Its orbit is strangely eccentric, to a much higher degree than most planets. This means that the planet can rapidly transition into hotter and colder seasons over this orbit. This gives the planet a decent, though not immense, scientific value. The Sulethis Republic mines on the planet, and easily extracts a measure of metallic materials used to build starships. However, most of the refining process is carried out in space because of the huge temperature difference between the melting point of metal ore and the planet temperature. It is easier to refine in space because the heat is more easily confined. Several of these stations orbit the planet Yytu, and then they send any mined material to any shipyards in the system. Yytu is a relatively large world, and as such has higher gravity than most other planets. This may be the primary reason the local life have evolved for such a short body shape compared to most planetary life in the Cluster. The HSA have also sent science ships and drones to study the world and the life that has evolved as a result of these strange conditions. Yytu is cold enough that all water found on the planet is found as ice, even in the warmer parts of the planet, though due to its eccentric orbit temperatures can vary significantly. At the lowest point of its orbit it gains a lot of heat an retains it for a period of time due to the thick atmosphere. The tyu are not water based lifeforms and instead drink ammonia as a catalyst for most biological processes. Ammonia has a boiling point that is far lower than 0°C. Most of the worlds oceans are ammonia, but there are a number of ice 'lakes'. At this temperature, ice is not dangerous to the tyu, but can cause harmful effects if molten into a liquid state. Ammonia dissolves in water. Due to its similarity with the Tyu homeworld of Taya, they have prioritised colonising this planet before almost any other they could find.
