Arabas VIII
A planet located in the Arabas system, which is owned by the Sulethis Republic.
Arabas VIII is a large gas giant and the largest planet in this system. Like many gas giants, it is exploited for hydrogen gas which is used as fusion reactor fuel primarily. There are also a number of fledging SR colonies in orbit around the gas giant. This is the primary method where the gas giant harvesting stations get crew from. This colony exports a large amount of hydrogen gas while importing everything necessary to keep a space station colony running.
Its also defended with a number of weapon turrets mounted on the collection stations and habitat itself. The habitat also has a number of starship drydocks to respond to distant threats, but it mostly relies on the larger defense network of the wider system to remain safe from attack.
Arabas VIII is otherwise very cold. At such a large orbital radius, it is bound to receive little energy from the sun. However, the station and colony can generate power by fusing hydrogen gas extracted from the gas giant. Though this allows them to remain powered practically indefinitely, the planet still needs to take in resources from the wider SR to manufacture and repair technology.
The Arabas VIII space colonies are effectively large O' Neil Cylinders, which rotate to create artificial gravity and are heated via large lights which rotate slightly slower than the rest of the station in order to give the appearance of a day-night cycle. Though each colony has a slightly different culture, they are all united under the SR and are often culturally important to other nearby SR cultures because of their proximity to the gas giant. Tourists like to see the gas giant from up closer and will sometimes come here.
