Denton Plains

Part of the vast steppeland known as the Great Belt that runs around Tarien from the Rheuthengage Mountains to the Sea of Dreams, the Denton plains are host to few human settlements but a wide variety of fauna. Starting the west, as the Lawless Steppes, the grasses begin to grow shorter as fewer rainclouds sweep up from the Sea of Storms during the spring.

Small copses of trees dot the edges off these plains and sporadic ridges break the otherwise endless sea of grass, providing ideal habitation for great herds. To the north, especially as the grasses reach into the flat, empty spaces between the Gulf of Kharl and the Soulmeliti Forests, great herds of wild horses, antelope and bison roam, chased by packs of wolves and thick furred lions. Further south, where winter snows become infrequent, hoofed animals still dominate, though zebras, giraffes, and even elephants grace the plains. Here, hyenas replace the wolves and sleek cheetahs join lions on the hunt.

Rarer still, though common enough to become a delicacy in Dalencroft, the only habitation on the Denton Plains, are small herds of dinosaurs, wandering out of the more isolated Darien plains to the east. These massive creatures, are generally of the spiked and horned variety, with the true giants preferring the heat and trees of the Jungles of Thallox to the south. And while these giants are great catches for the hunters willing to brave the long, isolated stretches of the Trans-Rheuthengage Highway that crosses the plains, the true prizes are the two legged monstrous carnivores that live solitary, scavenging existences in this great wilderness.
