Katzpütch Settlement in Tarien | World Anvil

Katzpütch

Truth be told, no one is sure how many residents of this sprawling town live there permanently. With only a few buildings, including a pair of forges and three inns with rotating name, most of the residents live in vast canvas tents or covered wagons. These tents and wagons, however house an amazing collection of people from all over Tarien. Strolling the winding paths between the colorful cloth homes and shops brings a cacophony of languages and assault of smells to a visitor. And while the Katsfair, as it was first called, began as a cattle trading post, it now boasts tariff free goods from all across Tarien.

The variety and opportunity, makes it one of the most lucrative - and dangerous - places on the continent. Unsurprisingly, cutpurses and entertainers work the crowds, though unusually, few beggars clutter the paths. Sellswords and adventurers gather here to trade gossip, treasure, and seek employ. And with no real rulers, there is no real law beyond that of the sharp knife. While fights amongst the untutored do occur, they end swiftly as the hired guards employed by all but the most foolish of merchants, quickly and brutally put an end to their combatants. These occasional shows of force, along with a common understanding that a relative peace is better for everyone's business, do their best to put order around the Lawless Steppes.
