Silver Lantern
Nestled among the vibrant tents and wagons of Katzpütch, The Silver Lantern stands as a warm and inviting refuge for weary travelers. Unlike lesser establishments in the City of Shifting Streets, the establishment exudes a well-worn charm that hints at comfort and care. Its sturdy wooden façade, made from timbers hauled across the Lawless Steppes from Hollin's Forest, is adorned with intricately carved scenes of nature, showcasing the craftsmanship of its owners, each of whom has added to the carvings over the countless seasons that the inn has remained in their hands. The flickering glow of lanterns, placed on poles outside the doors and at strategic locations amongst the maze of tents adjacent to its front door, spills out onto the surrounding paths, creating a welcoming ambiance as dusk falls.
Mira keeps those paths well-lit to discourage the more unsavory elements Katzpütch from skulking outside the Sliver Lantern as a courtesy to her patrons. Along the same lines, she employs a rotating quartet of Freelancers at tithe to keep the place free of cutpurses, ladies of the night, thugs and murderers - or at least the more overt ones. Her coin, and her willingness to allow the Freelancers a small room in the back where they might conduct sensitive business discussions, has purchased a relatively safe place in the otherwise lawless city. This safety comes, of course, at a premium. While the ales and wines of the Silver Lantern may be finer than the swill served in the open market stalls, they are certainly not worth the coin that the rotund innkeeper charges on their own merits.
The interior of The Silver Lantern is cozy and well-kept, with polished wooden tables and chairs arranged to encourage conversation among patrons. A central hearth crackles with a lively fire, filling the air with the inviting scent of roasted meats, Soulmeliti stir fries, buttered rice, and of course its famous steamed and stuffed rolls. The walls are lined with shelves displaying trinkets and mementos collected over the years by the inn’s owner, each telling a story of its own. Soft music often fills the space, played by a rotating list of bards who know that, a quick word with Mira allow them to perform here whenever they please. The second story of the inn holds a dozen spare, but clean rooms that, for what might purchase at one of Karradone's finer establishments, can be let by the night, denary, or moon.
