At the invitation of Govem Whitecrest, the party attends a Darknight party at the Stumbling Traveler. They have a bit of trouble at the door, given that they have no written invitiation. Eventually, a small, Nerrid woman charges out of the door, giving Crey a huge hug. She introduces herself as Tove Sylvidoterdoterdoterdorer, the proprietor of the inn. She is thrilled to finally have another Nerrid in town and leads him away to dance atop the bar. Later in the evening she lets him know that he is now in her employ with a codename of "Agent Meow".
Elsewhere at the party, Tarric introduces himself to a pair of Elynthi nobles. One, a samuarai named Merrick Shal'Vorka greats him curtly. The other, a cleric, introduces herself as Padushan Shal'Tuiz and barely acknowledges him. They make awkward small talk before Tarric excuses himself, offering his services should they be needed.
On the party's walk back to their tents, they stumble upon a dead body. Upon examination, Ishta finds it full drained of blood. She checks its pockets for loose coins before the party leaves the body - and whatever trouble it my bring - behind.

Govem sends for the party and they find him in his comfortable tent, writing thoughtfully. He greets the party cordially, letting them know that he has a job suited for their special talents. Given their success delivering books to Sévère Fourreur, he has another package. This time the package is a large bag of mining supplies to a prospector named Borin Coppervein at his new mine in the Larkspur Range. The party agrees to a fee of 3 gold crowns each for the job and heads out of town.

After travelling the full day west across the Lawless Steppes, the party camps for the night and sets the watches. During the first watch, Fizzywit notices a generally incompetent thief. After the thief stumbles, snapping a twig loudly, the party captures him. They learn that the thief, named Jasker, has been sent into the camp as an initiation into the Mountain Highwaymen to steal a map. The partry negotiates a trade - thier map of the Larkspur Range for Jasker's Thieves' Tools. He agrees and scurrys on his way.

While the next day starts uneventfully, the party manages to stumble into an ambush. A male lion leaps out of the tall grass, roaring. Tarric, however, is not intimidated. He flies at the beast feet first, wounding it greviously. The lion twists mid-leap and scampers away. To the other side of the party, a pair of lionesses, which were waiting in ambush, have a short conversation with @rouxbefore sauntering off.
