Kendali Shal'Vorka

Experimental Summoner

In the mid-seventh century, After Crowning, with the church of Nosferian reeling from centuries of setbacks that ranged from the Translocation Ban in the fifth century to the loss of occupied New Solarin in the sixth century to the Mage Wars in the early seventh century that saw most Elynthi become once again unwelcome in the Inner Seas and other human lands, a young summoner from House Vorka sought to change the fortunes of her faith. After showing great skill with the complex rituals of Nosforian at a young age, Kendali left her family home in Wash'kal at the tender age of 80 to study the arcane arts in the far east, at the Dara Kazmak Monastery. Many of her peers scoffed at her obsession with the art of summoning - traditionally the most noble path for an Elynthi mage as it opened channels to interact with Nosferian's immortal servants - she steadfastly ignored their protest, eschewing the studies of invocation and transmutation that quickly were become the most popular among them, focusing her summoning talents on the myriad of creatures native to Tarien. In a mere fifty years she had honed her craft to the level where, in a debate with an elder, she summoned and bound a large black dragon, willing it to slay her adversary on the spot. She was declared Abbot, the youngest ever by more than a century, the next day.

Her tenure as Abbot, however, lasted barely three decades. Certain that she could use the skills she had acquired to break the veil blocking Nosferian's faithful from Tarien, she spent little time running the monastery. To her family's dismay, instead of using her influential position to raise her own houses standing, she sequestered herself to her studies. Ignoring calls for her removal, Kendali swore that she would break the veil. Her failure, in an effort to summon a demon, was complete. Little was left of the Abbot's residence after her final experiment save a smoking crater, some thirty feet deep. Today the crater remains, a monument to the dangers of self-obsession at the expense of faith.
