River Salvent
The River Salvent begins amongst a low, rolling ridge of hills that nominally separate the Lawless Steppes from the Denton Plains where hundreds of streams flow toward a depression at the center of the rise, eventually filling enough to become the river's broad head. At least this basin fills broadly - albeit shallowly, in the spring when rains from the Gulf of Kharl to the north and Sea of Storms to south collide over the ridge in massive storms. As the summer's heat descends, it pulls the rain from Jendredi's clouds closer to the coast, leaving the basin a mess of caked and cracked mud, littered with the remains of the river's salmon run, by the Uthar Moon. As autumn falls the rains return, though never to the extent that they fell in the spring, turning caked mud to mush and finally returning the river the life.
Further downstream, the river flows fast and furious all spring through Hollin's Forest and manages to retains a passable flow - enough to sustain fish and other creatures throughout the summer even if it proves too shallow navigate by boats with the shallowest draft. It is along these banks that the forests outlaws swear they have seen terrifying creatures of incredible size. And while a few claim them merely to be dinosaurs drifting in from the Denton Plains, others claim that the river is home to frogs and salamanders of monstrous proportions. Those camped near the river point to the thunderous echoes as these creatures serenade the stars. Given the various horrors that can be found in the nearby Salamantra Forest Hammerhead Bay, perhaps these bandits should thank Kayla's that the only creatures they have to fear sing deep basso love songs in the night.
