House of Mercy
The Temple of Arimathica in Pendril sits in the northwestern part of the city, roughly equidistant from the Tower of the Clouds and the city walls. It is small but welcoming, its simple wooden doors carved with the image of a rose and bird - the sacred symbol of the goddess of healing. Unlike the city’s colorful Fachwerk buildings, the temple is unadorned stone, a sturdy and practical structure that reflects the faith’s devotion to service over splendor.
Inside, the scent of herbs and medicinal salves fills the air, mingling with the faint, metallic tang of blood. The central chamber serves as both a place of worship and consultation, where a simple altar of white stone stands beneath a large open skylight, letting in the natural light of day. Wooden pews line the walls, though most days are occupied not by worshippers but by the sick and injured, their quiet groans breaking the stillness.
To the left, a modest waiting area holds a handful of chairs and two small desks, tightly rolled scrolls and leatherbound books scattered over them. The shelves of the room hold an overflow of medical supplies - old rags, strange herbs, and a few potions in glass jars. A small straw mattress with a course wool mattress sits in one corner.
To the right, a makeshift infirmary extends deeper into the building, where several cots are invariably filled with patients - some wrapped in bloodstained bandages, others unconscious or otherwise convalescing. On a good day, at least one acolyte tends them, dabbing wounds, whispering prayers, and changing linen with frantic efficiency. More frequently - no matter the time of day or night - it is Sister Rinna, the temple's most adept healer tending the wounded, her green eyes narrow with concentration and worry.
