Lawless Gate
The Lawless Gate, situated on the western apex of the mighty walls surrounding the city of Pendril gets its name from both the Lawless Steppes into which it opens and the fact that it stands between the relatively unchecked freedom of Sarya's Republic and the domain of the Five Masked Lords and their Incontrovertible Edicts, conveniently printed on a huge obelisk of midnight blue marble just beyond the gate itself. Unlike other cities, Pendril has no need for a watch or guard to keep the peace. As such, the gate remains completely unguarded and open at all times, the weight of the edicts are force enough to deter troublemakers.
A small market surrounds the gate where merchants more comfortable with the clearly arcane-powered law of the city happily purchase goods from those with less confidence in their own consciences, only to resell them for a profit in the market just beyond the gate. A few small buildings have also grown up in the market, including a pair of inns, though nothing like Pole Town - in either size or character - has developed.
