Witch Queen Baba Yaga makes a pact with first hag witches where, even if witches and hags have individual patrons, they also all contractually belong to her. A tapestry in her Chicken-Legged Hut records this event. Whenever a witch accepts a patron or joins a coven, it is woven into the tapestry.
The era before the grandmother of a grandmother elf (the longest lived common race) would be able to personally remember.
Some of the older races would have parents or grandparents who had lived through these times, but (it is assumed) no-one alive would remember them.

The death of the sickly Ta-Tzar Kiril Bashirov meant the Ruslavian crown passed to his sister Valentina. Thus her husband Nikolas Romanov took the throne, and the monarchy was back under Romanov command.

Baboushka the Hedgewitch was born to her hag mother and left at the bottom of her father's bed, to be raised by the Winter Witches in the Sabrelands.
Before Anna, when I am fourteen, there is a girl named Katerina. She often is buying wood for her father, and asks me to walk her home. Nowadays when her family needs wood I deal mostly with her husband. He does not want me to walk him home.

The Domovoi of Vasilly's Hut was Touched by Winter, leaving the Dead House unguarded from the predations of the Snow Queen.
The Zima Family rides, furious with the encroaching Orthobog religion. They hunt the Spirits of the Old Beliefs, freezing their hearts and making them more agressive towards non-spirit creatures.
Baboushka escapes from Nightcrystal Coven, and is cursed to be a crone by her Night Hag mother Koshmar. This causes the Snow Queen to go after Vasilly's family, and raises the attentions of the magical creatures of the Old Beliefs (including the Baba Yaga and the Zorya).
The Snow Queen freezes the Woodcutter Vasilly's wife and grandmother, and steals the baby Oleg to consume the essence of back in the Sabrelands. (Fortunately the Snow Maiden took a liking to Oleg before he could be eaten, saving his life.)
Vasilly returns home from the The Eighth Hoary War to discover his house empty of all residents (including his Domovoi).
Baboushka asked to live with Vasilly in exchange for healing magic.
