Military Traditions
The militaries in the
Greater Yenarian region are all very developed and professional. The area has had a long history of conflict and rivalries and thus the cultures in the area have developed strong professional armies. Some nations like the
The Delnari Coalition have focused on navel superiority and less on land based dominance. Others nations like the
United Delfic States developed a extremely strong defensive mentality as they had to fend off tribal attacks to protect themselves. Finally, the
Yenari Empire is steeped in the mythos of
Tern warriors charging on a giant
Dreck, even if the effectiveness of a Dreck charge is ineffective against gonnes and kannons.
For the past 300 days the military technology has been radically changing, moving from plate armor and bludgeoning weapons to gonnes and kannons. For most of the regions history the cultures have had a well developed understanding of metallurgy and steel production. Yet the cultures did not have a knowledge of gunpowder. Thus for thousands of days the military was dominated by close combat between combatants in heavy plate armor. The domestication of the six legged
Dreck gave the
Tern Bas a terrifying mounted unit unseen in the region before. While they the cultures had uses for the crossbow, especially in navel engagements, the use of steel plate drastically limited the use of ranged weapons. The preferred weapons were heavy pole arms that could deliver bone crushing blows through the steel plate. Around 4200 the first kannons started appearing on
The Delnari Coalition ships as effective anti personal weapons. Scholars trace these first kannons to a
Sol Cid Ire design, and empire on the far side of Didome. The technology was probably brought to the
Delnari by the
Lak Traygers who were a nomadic sea people who started sailing around the world in 4050 and had dealing with most of the cultures of didome. Once the Kannons were introduced to the region, development of smaller handheld gonnes quickly followed. Since these new gonnes had the ability to easily pierce plate armor, they quickly spread to most of the region causing many nations to rethink their military tactics. Now after several hundred days, the gonne and kannon are the primary battlefield weapons and have been refined by the regions militaries.
The
Yenari Empire has a long military culture dating back to the second tern bas invasion when
Neerse Vimtoric defeated the empire and established himself as
Gran Father of the empire. The military tradition is filled with stories and honors relating to the
Tern people riding giant six legged
Drecks, anachronistically called a
Ternighut. While the military importance of a charge of Drecks has become less effective as gonnes and stake walls reduced their effectiveness; the utter deafet of the

Drecks in the
Tern Bas Skirmishes demonstrated the weakness of a dreck charge against prepared positions defended by
gonners . However, the Yenarians still utilized
Drecken cavalry, where 2-4 soldiers would be mounted on a dreck carrying spears and multiple firearms. They could ride close to the enemy and fire their gonnes, or they could charge unprotected infantry. This tactic was employed by the Yenarians until the
Delfic League War where the increasing prevalence and strength of firearms rendered the
Drecken tactics ineffective. The Yeanarians still maintain a few ceremonial units of
Dreckens.
However, the Dreck is still and immensely important in the military as a beast of burden. One beast is easily able to pull an artillery piece and the hauling capacity allows armies to carry lots of supplies with them. The yenarians also have adopted the Delfic cities use of
Dreckoons,
Drecks with 4 infantry men riding on it, as a way to rapidly transport infantry on the battlefield. The
