The Ky'rennei, servants created by an ancient crystal cult, the Crystal Covenant, were born from the very stones that formed the Grand Crystal Cathedral. Through a dark and sinister process, the cult's practitioners extracted fragments of stone from the cathedral's walls and infused them with magic. This twisted artistry breathed life into the inanimate rock, but at a terrible cost.
The Ky'rennei were not created through a simple transmutation of base materials but rather by draining the life force from the very people who sought solace within the cathedral. The cult's practitioners would secretly harvest the vitality of worshippers, drawing it out and using it to sustain their creations. This dark energy was then infused into the stone fragments, animating them and imbuing them with a semblance of life.
"I've heard rumors that some folks have gone into the cathedral and never returned. No sign of foul play, just...nothing. It's as if they vanished into thin air." -- Valoric Moonwhisper, retired knight
The Ky'rennei were crafted for specific roles, each one designed to serve the cult's nefarious purposes:
The Glimmerborn: small, delicate creatures tasked with maintaining the crystal formations within the cathedral. They would tend to the crystals, ensuring their beauty and potency remained unmarred.
The Stonehands: sturdy beings responsible for crafting and repairing structures within the cathedral, including furniture, decorations, and even entire rooms.
The Luminari: tall, slender servants who served as messengers and guides, using their enhanced senses to navigate the labyrinthine corridors of the cathedral.
However, with the decline of the crystal cult and the abandonment of the Grand Crystal Cathedral, the Ky'rennei were left without purpose or instruction. They continue to wander the empty halls, searching for guidance from a master they no longer have. Their existence is now a shadow of its former self, a reminder of the dark deeds that created them.
