The Aeum-Infused Glowbees of Greenvale

Located in the west of the Farenian Empire lies Greenvale Province, a place of gentle meadows, rolling hills, and the warm embrace of sunlight filtering through ancient oaks. Here, the rabbitfolk have cultivated a most wondrous art: raising bees that gather pollen laced with Aeum, a rare and magical ore mostly found in giant impact craters such as the Terraverde Basin. This subspecies of Apis mellifera (honeybee) flourishes in the basin’s remarkably fertile earth, where Aeum-hungry plants dominate the landscape. Over generations, the rabbitfolk - well known throughout the empire for their beekeeping prowess - have forged a mutually beneficial bond with these radiant insects, using their honey to brew potent elixirs.

Habitat and Foraging

The Terraverde Basin’s ecology bears the enduring marks of its cataclysmic past. Rich deposits of Aeum permeate the soil, encouraging the growth of flora that absorb the ore’s essence. Chief among these blooms is the Luminis florens, or Glowbloom, known for its soft, ethereal glow at twilight. Drawn by this gentle luminescence, the bees seek out the Glowbloom’s nectar and pollen, storing trace amounts of the ore in their hives. Unlike their common honeybee cousins, Greenvale’s glowbees emit a soft bioluminescence - a mesmerising by-product of prolonged Aeum exposure. At dusk, the basin’s fields and thickets seem to shimmer with tiny, drifting lights, lending an air of enchantment to the region.

Training the Bees

Rabbitfolk beekeepers combine time-honoured tradition with gentle ritual to nurture and guide their glowing hives:
  • Scent Imprinting: In the earliest stages of brood development, young colonies are introduced to Glowbloom nectar. This exposure helps them associate the flower’s delicate perfume with a reliable nectar source.
  • Hive Placement: The rabbitfolk strategically position their apiaries near thriving Glowbloom patches, minimising the bees’ foraging distance and ensuring a bountiful harvest.
Gentleness is key throughout these practices, reflecting the rabbitfolk’s deep respect and affection for their winged companions.

From Pollen to Potions

For those curious to sample the fruits of the hives’ labour, the transformation from pollen to potion is a captivating process:
  • Harvesting: Special pollen traps are attached to the hive entrances twice weekly, collecting Aeum-laden granules in small, manageable quantities. To safeguard the bees’ well-being, rabbitfolk never overharvest, ensuring each colony remains healthy and productive.
  • Honey Synthesis: As the bees blend pollen into honey, Aeum dissolves within, gradually increasing its potency. Patient beekeepers time their honey collection for the dry season, when Aeum levels naturally peak.
  • Alchemy: The freshly gathered honey is distilled alongside rare herbs during moonlit ceremonies. The resulting potions bolster vitality, improve one’s elemental affinity, or grant other fleeting enhancements. Meanwhile, any leftover wax, still brimming with magic, is expertly sculpted into protective amulets and ornaments.

The Marvel of Mutation

Centuries of living amid Aeum-laced flowers have encouraged the bees to develop extraordinary traits. Whilst most bear only the faint luminescent markings of Greenvale’s distinctive strain, a notable few exhibit remarkable mutations - some beneficial, others less so.   Of particular fascination is the rare subspecies dubbed Apis luminaris, whose bioluminescent wings shimmer rhythmically under moonlight. Their elongated proboscises allow them to probe even the deepest of blossoms, and some beekeepers claim to sense a gentle telepathic murmur when working with these hives. Less fortunate are the “Veilwings”, whose translucent, crystal-like exoskeletons risk fracturing under strain, and certain colonies whose Aeum glands overcharge, causing their honey to harden prematurely, rendering it unsuitable for potion-making.   The rabbitfolk regard such variations with a mixture of awe and caution, diligently removing unstable lineages whilst selectively breeding for traits that enhance their bees’ magical gifts.

Potions

Moonlit Vitality Draught
This gentle, silver-hued tonic is distilled under the full moon and sweetened with Aeum-laden honey. It warms the body, calms the mind, and grants a soft glow to one’s skin.
Compatible with WFRP4e
Effects: For 1 hour after drinking, the imbiber gains +10 to Endurance Tests (due to enhanced vigour) and +1 Advantage at the beginning of any new combat encounter (as a surge of vitality).   Side Effect: While under its effect, the drinker’s skin emits a faint, comforting glow, imposing a -10 penalty to Stealth Tests in dark conditions.   Rarity: Very Rare
Compatible with Cypher System
Level: 3   Effect: Upon consumption, the user gains an Asset on all Might defence tasks for 10 minutes and one free recovery roll can be made immediately (doesn’t count against their daily total).   GM Intrusion (Optional): The glow betrays the user’s location more easily. In tense or stealth-driven scenes, the GM may use this as an intrusion to have adversaries spot them sooner.

Glowbloom Nectar Infusion
Harvested from the earliest blossoms of the Luminis florens (Glowbloom), this golden potion is infused with the delicate floral essence that first drew Aeum-bees to the Terraverde Basin. It sharpens the senses, lending a crisp clarity to sight and sound.
Compatible with WFRP4e
Effects:
  • For 30 minutes, the imbiber gains +10 to Perception Tests and +10 to any one Lore Test of their choice (the infusion’s mind-focusing properties).
  • +1 SL (Success Level) to any single Track or Navigation Test made during the potion’s duration (the heightened sense of direction).
Side Effect: Once the effect ends, the user experiences mild fatigue, imposing -5 to Initiative for the next hour.   Rarity: Rare
Compatible with Cypher System
Level: 2   Effect: For 10 minutes, the user gains an Asset on all tasks requiring keen senses (such as perception, sight-based detection, or listening checks).   GM Intrusion (Optional): After the effect ends, the user suffers a 1-step increase in difficulty for any task related to Initiative or quick reactions for the next hour, reflecting temporary mental fatigue.

Luminaris Goldenbrew
A true marvel of rabbitfolk apothecaries, this radiant golden honey-wine is blended with Aeum-rich pollen and a dash of starlight tradition. By briefly aligning the imbiber’s spirit with celestial forces, it aids in channelling magical power.
Compatible with WFRP4e
Effects:
  • For 1 hour, spellcasters gain +1 SL (Success Level) on any successful Channelling Test (or +10% if using simpler rules) for Petty or Arcane spells.
  • Non-spellcasters instead gain +10 to Cool Tests, reflecting enhanced composure.
Miscast Side Effect: If the imbiber Fumbles a casting roll (roll of 96–100), the magical energies backfire. The caster gains one Miscast effect level higher than normal (GM’s choice if uncertain).   Rarity: Very Rare
Compatible with Cypher System
Level: 5   Effect: For 10 minutes, the user gains an Asset on any tasks involving spellcasting, magical lore, or controlling supernatural forces.   GM Intrusion (Optional): A critical failure on a magic-related roll triggers a backlash - perhaps the user takes 5 points of Intellect damage (ignores Armour) or inadvertently summons a minor hostile entity.

Trying to do some more "cozy" articles. The rabbitfolk and the duckfolk are the right ones for that. :D
