Durngrym is the fierce martial deity of the dwarves, revered as the embodiment of strength, endurance, and unbreakable will. He is the god of war, smithing, and the eternal struggle against the darkness lurking beneath the mountains. Depicted as a mighty dwarf clad in blackened steel armour, his beard like molten metal and his eyes burning like forge embers, Durngrym wields Fellhammer, a war maul said to have shaped the mountains themselves. His followers believe that only through hardship, toil, and battle can true honor and mastery be achieved.

Aspects of Durngrym

War & Conquest: Durngrym teaches that strength is not given but earned. He favours those who stand resolute in battle, whether against foes, the elements, or the hardships of life itself.   Smithing & Creation: Just as war hones warriors, the forge tempers metal. Durngrym sees the act of creation as an extension of combat - every hammer strike against the anvil is an act of defiance against weakness.   Stone & Endurance: The mountains stand eternal, and so too must the dwarves. Durngrym’s blessing grants resilience to those who prove their worth, ensuring they do not falter when the earth quakes or the enemy strikes.   The Deep Vigil: Legends tell that Durngrym stands guard over the darkest depths of the world, ever watchful for the horrors that stir beneath the mines. His followers take up this duty, ensuring that no evil rises unchecked.

Worship & Rituals

The Forge-Vow: Before battle, dwarven warriors swear an oath at the forge, marking their armour or weapon with a rune of Durngrym. If they fall, their weapon is reforged into a new one, carrying their strength into future battles.   The Rite of Iron & Blood: A brutal coming-of-age trial where young dwarves must mine their own ore, forge their own weapon, and then prove themselves in single combat against a chosen warrior.   The Last Anvil: When a great dwarven hero dies, their body is cremated in a sacred forge, and their ashes are mixed with iron to create weapons or armour. These relics are said to carry the warrior’s strength and are used only in the most desperate of battles.   The Deep March: A ritual hunt into the abandoned lower tunnels of dwarven strongholds, where warriors purge the horrors that lurk in the dark, proving their worth as guardians of the mountain.

Sacred Places

The Anvil of Ages: A legendary forge said to have been struck by Durngrym’s own hammer. Weapons and armour crafted here are rumored to be unbreakable.   The Black Chasm: A bottomless pit where ancient evils stir. It is said that Durngrym fought a great demon here, sealing it beneath the earth. His priests perform war rites at its edge to ensure the seal remains strong.   The Hall of Unyielding: A cavern deep within the mountains where statues of dwarven heroes stand, carved from the very stone they once fought for. Warriors seeking strength meditate here, swearing oaths before the stone faces of their ancestors.

Philosophy of Durngrym’s Followers

“A hammer’s strength is proven upon the anvil.”
“Steel does not weep, and neither shall I.”
“The mountain does not kneel, and neither shall we.”
“Honour the forge, fear not the fire, and strike first in war.”

I am very intrigued of Alana's pantheon, you're doing a great job at presenting your gods in a straightforward and not at all overwhelming way! I have a question, about how things work. You write Durngrim is worshiped by dwarves (naturally), but does he have worshipers from other species as well? I mean, I get he is the creator of the dwarven race but since he is the god of war and smithing, is he worshiped by others as well?

So far he isn't. But that might change in the future. I am just trying to add all the beliefs, deities, and greater beings I have on my list. Possibly someone like the orcs might also worship him, at least some, but they might also have their own deity. Or the kobolds might also worship the trickster god of the phurr.   Just wait until I have arrived at Calika and its "7000 gods". X-D

I like him. He definitely deserves more followers.
