Located amid the rolling hills and emerald meadows of Greenvale Province, one may stumble upon a plant of quiet enchantment: the Glowbloom. Known by scholars as Luminis florens, this delicate flower is loved for its gentle radiance and its uncanny ability to draw Aeum - an extremely rare, magical ore - into its fragile petals.

Physical Characteristics

The Glowbloom is slender and unassuming by day. Its silky, pale red petals curl inward until late afternoon, sheltering specks of pollen within. But as dusk approaches, these petals unfurl to reveal a soft, luminescent core. While the glow itself is only faintly visible to human eyes, onlookers describe it as a soft, otherworldly gleam, reminiscent of distant starlight.   Petal Colour: Typically a milky white by daylight, shifting to a subtle silver or pale lilac tone in the evening.   Stem & Leaves: The stems are thin, around 15–20 centimetres in height, with wispy leaves that appear almost translucent.   Bioluminescence: The heart of each flower emits a gentle luminescence at night, often strongest during clear skies or under a waxing moon.

Aeum Absorption

The Glowbloom’s true wonder lies beneath its captivating glow. Unique to certain craters such as the Terraverde Basin, the plant draws trace amounts of Aeum from the soil through its root system. Over countless generations, it has evolved specialised cells that bond with minute Aeum particles, channelling this magical essence upward to its pollen-rich anthers.

Habitat and Growth

Glowbloom thrives in the crater’s mineral-rich soil, flourishing best in dappled sunlight and mild, temperate climates. Although the Terraverde Basin can be prone to sudden storms or seasonal extremes, Glowbloom’s sturdy roots allow it to persist year after year.   Optimal Conditions: Loamy soil with moderate moisture and partial sun exposure.   Bloom Cycle: Flowers open at dusk and remain fully unfurled until just before sunrise. In particularly dark or overcast weather, they may glow faintly even before evening.   Reproduction: The plant propagates by seed.

Role in Rabbitfolk Beekeeping

In Greenvale Province, the warm-hearted rabbitfolk have perfected the art of pairing the Glowbloom with their Aeum-infused bees. By placing their apiaries close to clusters of Glowbloom, they ensure bees have a reliable source of Aeum-laden pollen, creating the famed honey used in healing potions and arcane brews.   Pollination: Bee colonies imprinted on Glowbloom’s nectar diligently seek out these blossoms, gathering pollen that shimmers with latent Aeum magic.   Bioluminescent Dance: Observers can sometimes witness a nocturnal ‘light show’ as luminous bees dart between softly glowing flowers - an eerily beautiful sight in the Terraverde Basin moonlight.   Harvest and Ritual: Some rabbitfolk traditions hold that the honey gathered at the height of the Glowbloom’s flowering season carries a gentler, more balanced magical energy.

Harvesting Glowblooms

Despite the rabbitfolk’s best efforts, harvesting Glowblooms on any meaningful scale remains all but impossible. The flowers flourish deep within Alana’s ancient impact craters - a place so perilous that larger creatures who venture too far never return. Whispers of strange phenomena, haunting echoes, and vanishing paths abound, yet not even the most fearless explorers have brought back verifiable accounts of what truly transpires in those depths, as no one ever returned. For now, the exact cause of these disappearances remains cloaked in mystery, discouraging even the bravest souls from attempting further expeditions. Adding to the difficulty, Aeum deposits are rare outside these crater regions, making Glowbloom pollen collected elsewhere too sparse in magical ore to be of any practical alchemical use. For now, the true cause behind these mysterious disappearances - and the ultimate secret of the Glowbloom’s refuge - remains stubbornly out of reach.

Myths and Folklore

The legends surrounding Glowbloom are as varied as the Basin’s many visitors. Some speak of a crater spirit that whispers to the plants at night, teaching them to glow in gratitude for the Aeum they consume. Others tell of an ancient rabbitfolk hero who planted the very first Glowbloom seed where a meteor fell, ensuring the crater’s ‘wound’ would eventually bloom into a place of healing.   GM info / spoilers / plot hooks.

The adventure side in me wants to go see what's going on in the craters as well as find out more about the flowers. While the foodie side of me wants to try that honey. Very cool article

Let's have fun creating the impossible, building new worlds, and all types of possibilities. Valcin

Flowers are always good. As are shrooms, rabbits, gnomes, and ducks.
