Gysikan

Gysikan covers the region between the Pargos Mountains to the north and the Zóken Mountains to the south, from Goldensands in the west to the coast of Silver Sea in the east.
The region is home to a number of tribes and kingdoms of different origins, with notable human populations in the west, dwarves, half-dwarves and orcs along the coast and he rest being mostly half-elves.

History

The region was first settled by early humans and half-elves during Adynía's paleolithic area, including the ancestors of Faronians, Dardians and their relatives the Amrans and Rómúkans.
Bronze age culture spread from Faron to the south or through their colonies along the coast, so many of the native cultures were heavily influenced by Faronic culture. Later waves of people of people migrated to Gysikan as a result of invasion by Wild Mountains Tribes, including the ancient Katargysíans, or from the north like the Þúans and Góalanics.
With the fall of Katargysía, many cities in western Gysikan were abandoned and later settled by human tribes coming as far as the Wild Mountains. After an initial surge of precious Katargysian artifacts and magic crystals, the western region declined as the old cities crumbled or flooded, making treasure hunting ever more perilous. The coastal kingdoms, on the other hand, prosper.

Geography

The western part of the region is relatively arid and flat, with the land gradually rising further west, forming hill chains and low mountain ridges with fertile valleys in between.
Summer are generally warm and droughts are relatively common in the west, while winters are cool, with frequent rains. Snowfall only occurs during unusually cold winters, and is restricted to the top of a few mountains such as Mt. Yrnassos.

Fauna & Flora

Notable wildlife includes wolves, Hill lions, rabbits, goats, horses and -in the southwest- small herds of Plains unicorns like those in Darden.
The western region is mostly grassland, with thorn bushes common to the southwest, shrubs and small trees dominate the central and western area, with small mixed woodlands (mostly oak, pine and olive trees) found in the northern regions.

Natural Resources

A variety of metals and semi-precious stones are mined in the rocky central- and eastern regions, while magic crystals are plentiful to the west, near Goldensands. The coastal regions are especially good for growing olives, vines and millet, and raising horses and cattle, while further inland the land is more suitable for raising goats and sheep.
