Mílesis

Sikíronian:
Halinkazian: Berka

Mílesis is the largest city and capital of Upper-Paríon, the northeastern province of the Sikíron Empire in central Adynía. Located on the northern bank of the upper Kir River, the city is most famous for the Mílesis Academy, founded by the ancient Paþaríans, which specializing in teaching the art of enchanting weapons, armour and shields using magic crystals. Most of Mílesis' wealth has historically come from kings and emperors, generals, mercenaries, mages and other wealthy individuals ordering custom-made weapons and arms for a high prize from the mage academy, and many famed arcane smiths have studied there.
Farming, mining and textiles, while not as glorious, provide the city with more steady -if modest- income, along with trade with the kingdom of Halinkazía via the city of Ambra.

History

Mílesis was originally founded by Zameltoníans, a dwarven bronze age culture that once ruled most of the Meldon Plain, during which the city was known as Berka. As in most cities in Zameltonía, Berka had an extensive network of underground halls and and tunnels, some home to the royalty, others housing granaries and others storages, workshops, smithies and mines, while dwarven commoners lived within a citadel on the surface where non-dwarven subjects were allowed to visit during the day.
When Zameltonía collapsed due to invasions of tribes from Záal and Gráhúlysía, the city was sacked and reduced to little more than a town, until it was conquered by the Paþarían Empire, during which Mílesis was rebuilt into largely the same form as it remains today. It then functioned the capital of Þerakkía -one of Paþaría's successor states- for a few centuries before becoming part of the Sikíron Empire.
Unlike other cities on the plain built by the zameltoníans, parts of the subterranean section of Mílesis have been continually inhabited to this day, mostly by Tanikaz-Dwarves -descendants of the zameltoníans- and more recently by Halinkazíans hailing from the Darka Mountains to the north. The rest of the underground has long since been cleared of any valuables and either collapsed or filled with rubble as the modern city was built on the surface, save for a few mining tunnels that provide Mílesis with some metals and other minerals.

Architecture

Most structures above ground in Mílesis are built in old paþarían or newer sikíronían style, due to the former renovating or completely rebuilding most of the city, save for a few minor shrines either erected by vakkals (ancient Záali) or converted from surviving zameltonían buildings. Certain decorative elements on older monuments and temples evoke zameltonían style, which early paþaríans were quite fond of.
