Sestatrea

As the Capital City of Laskea, Sestatrea is one of the few human bastions of good on the continent of Abios. The city lies on the northern-most point on the Peninsula of Laskea with access to the Onnicia Ocean to the north and the Qretith Sea to the southeast. With Torm as the patron deity, Sestatrea is a symbol of hope among the humans of northern Abios standing as a testament to what is possible when justice, duty and righteousness is given to all.

Description

Three roads lead into the city of Sestatrea from the southwest, through the gray stone gatehouses dotting the solid stone walls and round watchtowers protectively encompassing the city. The streets are clean and the houses are well-constructed and maintained with very little sign of poverty, though it does exist within the city. By most standards, the poor still reside in modest houses which act as bunkhouses for those unable to afford their own property. As one progresses along the main road, tradespeople, craftsmen, middle-class, and eventually the noble districts are encountered. Just south of the docks lie two main city squares.
The plaza located furthest north and closest to the docks is called Monument Plaza, while the southern plaza is called Perseverance Plaza. Both are active trade bazaars with Monument Plaza selling mostly trade goods and commodities while Perseverance Plaza sells mostly weapons and armor. North from the plaza lies the Azure Docks. Named for the standard color of the Laskean Banner, the Azure Docks is the largest trading port of the free kingdoms of Abios, though it pales in comparison to that of Bhaevor, Bayvale, and Valmere.

Government

Along the walls to the far south of the city lies the Temple of Torm's Coming, an impressive citadel that serves dual roles as the Keep for the ruling family of Laskea, and the impressive temple dedicated to Torm. Here, Alwyn Nede rules as King along with the Queen of Laskea, Yevidri Aerilaya, with High Cleric Barriltar Bhandraddon serving as Torm’s pontiff in all of Abios (though his reach merely extends throughout most of Laskea).
Politics in Laskea are not as complicated as one might find elsewhere. To a diplomat of Acilidan, an aristocrat of Aennamar, or even an emissary of Edrax, the court at Sestatrea would seem pedestrian and quaint. Every edict or law is made with the people's well-being at the forefront of any decision. King Nede detests backstabbing and powerplays within his government, and takes the necessary steps to quash any such actions before they've had a chance to develop. The government is open to the people, allowing anyone to petition the crown if all other avenues have failed. The city itself has several small courts that serve the people and assist in deciding disputes among the people and nobles alike. The court of the land, the Court of Righteousness, is located within the Temple of Torm's Coming, and listens to disputes from neighboring towns, as well as cases involving other nations.

Industry

Sestatreans are typically employed as sailors, fishermen, tailors, farmers, and shepherds. A small community of craftsman creating weapons and armor of exquisite construction have cropped up within the past century, helping to keep the Paladins of Torm outfitted and adding to their growing noble reputation.
Another growing industry within Sestatrea is that of Brewers, with a relatively new stout called Browncoal (pronounced BROWN-cull) becoming sought out within the northern kingdoms. Browncoal is a Laskean dry stout that originated in the brewery of Erdom Brown in 2198 at James' Gate Brewery in Sestatrea. Browncoal features a burnt flavour that is derived from malted barley and roasted unmalted barley. For many years, a portion of aged brew was blended with freshly brewed beer to give a sharp lactic acid flavor. The draught beer's thick, creamy head comes from a release of the gases formed during the fermentation process. It is popular with the Laskeans, as well as commonfolk abroad.
The view of the world through Sestatreans' eyes are one of simple pleasures. Most people wish to be left alone to live happy and healthy lives. This point of view leaves many Sestatreans being kind to their fellow citizen, and hospitable to visitors.
